PostSubject: Specifications   March 3rd 2010, 2:58 pm

This seems to be a big problem with a lot of users, sometimes even more. The surrounding plays a big role in the topic. So I am posting a learning section for specifying. This is going to include weather, time, place, amount of people, etc.

And I will use a fictitious character named Larry.

Larry was walking down the street with his hands in his pockets and his head hung low. He had a long day and it had left him feeling absolutely exhausted. Larry had a lit cigarette hanging loosely in his lips, a small trail of smoke rose in a continuous stream just in front of his space. A long extension of ash was located at the tip of his cigarette, but Larry didn't bother to dispose of it. Larry turned to a man as shadow covered most of his face and he took the man's head and broke his neck, a sadistic smile passed over his face.

Now while this is a pretty good post, it has detail and it is medium length, it left out key details for certain people to play off of, that would effect how they entered or even how they fought. Here is a post that would be more fitting with specifications.

It was a cold and dark night, a lit rain drizzled over the cold long streets of New York City, and a crowd of people pushed down the sidewalk in a haste to keep out of the rain as best as possible. Larry was walking down the street, along a long concrete building with a large billboard on the side that read, "Bill's House of Laughs" clearly a comedy house, Larry had his hands in his pockets and his head hung low not paying much attention to the laughter emanating from the building. Larry turned to a man as shadow covered most of his face and he took the man's head and broke his neck, a sadistic smile passed over his face, and the mass of people on the streets gazed at the body then at his murderer and after a solitary scream the crowd broke out in hysteria.

This allows many more possibilities for posters who come to fight this villain, and sometimes the difference between a good post and a great post is just a matter of adding a setting, try this if your aiming to be a top tier poster.

I'd like to add something on to this, that is kind of obvious, but people still don't always do.
Make sure you read the posts before yours so that you understand the surroundings. In one thread I'm rping in, two people have posted doing things that weren't possible with the the thread's surroundings (a cave), even though they would work with other areas (like a city, forest, in water, or other open places)
